How Fletcher Building rolled out a 60-vehicle long-term fleet

From city weekends to South Island loops, match your route, passengers and luggage to a vehicle that makes the journey easy.

A good rental choice starts with the trip, not the badge on the bonnet. The roads you plan to take, the people coming with you and the gear you need to carry all matter more than simply choosing the biggest vehicle available.

A compact car can be ideal for two people travelling between cities. Families, ski groups and travellers planning longer days usually appreciate the extra luggage space and comfort of an SUV, van or minibus.

Start with people and luggage

Count every passenger, then picture the luggage beside them. A five-seat car may technically fit five people, but it may not fit five suitcases as well. Leave room for jackets, food, child seats and anything you collect along the way.

  • One or two travellers with light luggage: a compact car keeps city driving simple.
  • A family or a longer itinerary: an SUV gives you more room without feeling oversized.
  • A group travelling together: a minibus keeps everyone on the same schedule.

Choose enough space for passengers, bags and the journey ahead.

Match the vehicle to the road

Most New Zealand itineraries stay on sealed roads, where a comfortable car or SUV is all you need. If your plans include ski fields, rural accommodation or carrying bikes and outdoor equipment, ask our team which vehicle suits the route and season.

"The best vehicle is the one you stop thinking about once the journey begins.”
